Flatland
SUMMARY
This project was to create a cover for a book. The book I selected was Flatland by Edwin Abbott Abbott. Flatland is a satirical novella that explores the idea of human limitations and our understanding through a two-dimensional world, where inhabitants encounter beings from higher dimensions.
SOLUTION
My design for the book cover weaves the worlds from the book using an isometric cube pattern. I used lines to represent Lineland, 2D shapes to represent Flatland, and used perspective to also imply the 3rd-dimension. This pattern is interrupted by the colors of red and green, symbolizing the rebellion within the book when the shapes defiantly paint themselves.
